The main theme of the Rice Congress is:
Beyond the First Generation NERICAs in Africa: Paradigms and
Partnerships for the Next Decade
The following sub-themes will be discussed:
- NRM: Sustainable intensification and diversification strategies for
African rice-based cropping systems
- The IPM philosophy and the major breakthroughs in the upland-lowland
continuum
- Economics: From policy to adoption/impact: An overview of the economics
of the African rice sub-sector
- Breeding/crop improvement: The conceptual framework for rice varietal
improvement for Africa
- Technology transfer: Seed and production-consumption chain
Commissioned papers on the central theme to be followed
by discussion. The papers will focus on perspectives and developments in
rice research and development during the last decade. Sub-Themes will guide
the presentation of thematic papers on the broad areas of rice breeding and
crop improvement, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Socio-Economics, Natural
Resource Management (NRM) and Technology Transfer
