Editor’s Note
The last quarter of the
year has been eventful and in many ways significant for
the Africa Rice Center. Major events, such as the 25th
Ordinary Session of the WARDA Council of Ministers,
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (22-23 September), the
Sub-Saharan Africa Rice Policy and Food Security
Workshop (7-9 November), the Research Days (14-18
November) and the Annual General Meeting (5-9 December)
have served as important platforms to showcase the
Center’s R&D activities and provide strategic directions
for the future. Brief information on all these landmark
events has been provided in this issue.
The success of the NERICAs has overshadowed the Center’s
achievements and impacts in the area of irrigated rice
ecology for the Sahel. The article Greening the Sahel
describes some of the important technologies that are
quietly revolutionizing the rice landscape in the
Senegal River Valley.
