With the start of the New Year, a new temporary headquarters for the Africa Rice Center has been established in Cotonou, Benin, which promises to be a safe haven for the Center’s scientists to pursue their important research agenda.

Dr Kanayo F. Nwanze, Director General, describes the efforts made by the Center to meet the formidable challenges of this transition and the dynamism with which the staff have resumed their R&D activities in their new working place, thanks to their remarkable resilience and the strong support from donors and partners.

The article Charting the future of rice in sub-Saharan Africa reveals a glimpse of the future strategic directions of the Center’s R&D activities. The News and notes section highlights the various activities of the staff, who are vigorously engaged in brainstorming, planning and doing research in Cotonou, Benin.
