Dr
Kanayo F. Nwanze has been the Director General of the Africa Rice Center
(WARDA) since 1996. He has close to 30 years of extensive experience in
international agricultural research, research management, and
development work in sub-Saharan Africa (Anglophone and Francophone
countries) and Asia with the
Consultative Group on
International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Centers.
Before joining WARDA, Dr Nwanze worked for the CGIAR's
International Crops
Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), where his
positions included Principal Cereals Entomologist in Ouagadougou,
Burkina Faso, Acting Director of ICRISAT's West Africa Programs, and
Project Team Leader for the Sorghum Medium Rainfall Project in Andhra
Pradesh, India. He was a Research Entomologist and later Principal
Entomologist for roots and tubers in Zaire at the CGIAR's
International Institute
of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
Dr Nwanze holds a B.Sc. in agricultural biology
from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in
entomology from Kansas State University, USA. He is a Nigerian national.

Dr Nwanze is a member of several scientific associations and a board
member of several Africa-based institutions. In 2001, he was conferred
with the title
Commander of the National Order of Merit of Côte d'Ivoire in
recognition of his outstanding leadership of WARDA and service
to the West African sub-region. |
