The Africa Rice Center Appoints Long Tien Nguyen 
as Assistant Director General, Corporate Services

Long Tien NguyenThe Africa Rice Center (WARDA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Long Tien Nguyen, a U.S. citizen, as Assistant Director General, Corporate Services (ADG-CS), with effect from 12 July 2004. 

As a member of WARDA’s Executive Management Committee, Mr Nguyen will assist the Director General in the overall management of the Center and will advise on policies relating to finance, planning and budget, human resource management, information technology, general administration and operations of the Center and its physical facilities. He is responsible for leading, planning, and managing the Center’s support services. 

Mr Nguyen has an extensive background in financial, accounting and administrative management, spanning 20 years in international organizations. Before joining the Africa Rice Center, he was the Vice President, Finance and Operations, from 2000 to 2003, at the Africa-America Institute, USA, which is a non-profit organization that seeks to expand education and professional training opportunities for Africans and foster greater understanding of Africa in America. From 1997 to 2000, he worked as the Chief Financial Officer at the Pearl S. Buck Foundation, USA.

Mr Nguyen is no stranger to the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), having worked for the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) as Contracts and Grants Administrator from 1994 to 1997.

He has completed the Executive Program courses at the University of Penn and has an MBA in Finance from Marymount University (1996) and a BS/BA in International Business and Finance from the American University (1984).

The IVC membership is open to countries and organizations working on the development of inland valleys in Sub-Saharan Africa
